The Porch Stomp Folk Music Festival on Governors Island

in New York City is a vibrant celebration of traditional and contemporary folk music set against the iconic backdrop of the city skyline. Nestled amidst the lush greenery of Governors Island, this annual event brings together an eclectic lineup of talented musicians who perform on charming porches and pop-up stages scattered throughout the island.

Attendees can immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of folk music styles, from bluegrass to Americana, while soaking in the laid-back, community-driven atmosphere. With workshops, jam sessions, and opportunities for spontaneous collaboration, Porch Stomp fosters a sense of kinship among musicians and audience members alike, making it a cherished gathering for folk music enthusiasts from all walks of life.

FESTIVAL DETAILS

The Porch Stomp Festival takes place in mid-June from 10am–6pm on Governors Island, inviting hundreds of folk bands, artists, and performing arts organizations to use Nolan Park and Colonel’s Row as spaces for performance and education.

 

Each “stage” or porch is curated and produced by an arts organization or local venue supporting traditional arts and representing a specific folk community in New York City.

2026 partners include Cowgirl Seahorse, Brooklyn Contra, the Folk Music Society of NY, The Peoples’ Voice Cafe, and more.

Porch Stomp is a free, volunteer-run music celebration produced in association with Make Music New York, a not-for-profit that connects music makers, fans, and the public spaces of New York City. Unlike typical music festivals, Porch Stomp lets anyone take part, and all events are free and open to the public.
