FAQs

Q : I’ve never been to Porch Stomp or Governors Island. What can I expect?

A : Porch Stomp is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the folk music community in NYC.  With innovative and engaging programming, Porch Stomp has been connecting musicians and communities for over 13 years.  We are entirely volunteer-run and community funded, meaning that everything you see or hear from Porch Stomp is a product of the blood, sweat and tears from musicians and music lovers just like you!

Q : Will there be food and drink available?

A : There is food and drink located throughout the Island, the majority in Liggett Terrace. We encourage you to check out Little Eva's for food, and Threes Brewing for beer! More information about food and drink options can be found HERE

Q : Can I bring food and/or alcohol?

A : Food = SURE! Alcohol = NO. See the Governors Island website for details on their strictly-enforced policies.

Q: How do I get there?

A: You have to take a short and fun ferry ride from one of two specific Governors Island ferry locations in Manhattan or Brooklyn, and NYC Ferry is also running a shuttle service from Wall Street Pier 11 to Yankee Pier. More information about ferries can be found HERE.

Q: Is Porch Stomp a family-friendly event?

A: Yes, most definitely. Especially if you or your family members and kids like to dance!

A: No. See the Governors Island website for details on their strictly-enforced policies.

Q: How much does it cost to attend?

A: Porch Stomp is 100% FREE to attend and 100% volunteer-run. However, the Governors Island ferry may, depending on your age and the times you ride, cost you around $5/person, roundtrip.

Q: I play an instrument. Will there be opportunities to play at Porch Stomp?

A: You bet’cha! A number of our porch stomp stages will be open jams.  Check out our Porch Stomp participatory page! Can’t find the one that’s right for you? Bring your strings anyway!  There will be ton of folks looking to meet up and play- make friends and strum on!
