I’ve never been to Porch Stomp or Governors Island. What can I expect?

Have you ever had an enjoyable day in the park?  Expect that, except with live music around every corner.

Will there be food and drink available?

There is food and drink located throughout the Island, the majority in Liggett Terrace. We encourage you to check out Little Eva's for food, and Threes Brewing for beer! More information about food and drink options can be found HERE

Can I bring food and/or alcohol?

Food = SURE! Alcohol = NO. See the Governors Island website for details on their strictly-enforced policies.

How do I get there?

You have to take a short and fun ferry ride from one of two specific Governors Island ferry locations in Manhattan or Brooklyn, and NYC Ferry is also running a shuttle service from Wall Street Pier 11 to Yankee Pier. More information about ferries can be found HERE.

Is Porch Stomp a family-friendly event?

Yes, most definitely. Especially if you or your family members kids like to dance!

Can I bring pets?

No. See the Governors Island website for details on their strictly-enforced policies.

How much does it cost to attend?

Porch Stomp is 100% FREE to attend and 100% volunteer-run. However, the Governors Island ferry may, depending on your age and the times you ride, cost you around $5/person, roundtrip.

I play an instrument. Will there be opportunities to play at Porch Stomp?

You bet’cha! A number of our porch stomp stages will be open jams.  Check out the items in orange on our 2024 line-up! Can’t find the one that’s right for you? Bring your strings anyway!  There will be ton of folks looking to meet up and play- make friends and strum on!

What if I can’t dance that well?

Don’t worry, neither can we.

What if it rains?

We are a rain or shine event.

Can I volunteer to help before or during the event?

YES! We’d love to have you participate. Please email our volunteer team at And thank you! We’re a small, growing organization of volunteers, so anything you may want to contribute - we want to know about it!

Can I make a donation? I know Porch Stomp is 100% free and 100% volunteer-run.
