Sea Shanties at the Gowanus Canal: Embracing nautical traditions and facilitating stewardship of NYC’s waterways.

Porch Stomp teams up with the Gowanus Dredgers to host “Sea Shanties at the Gowanus Canal,” a musical celebration of Earth Day. The participatory event will showcase nautical musical traditions, and educate audiences on how we can inspire more stewards of New York City’s shared waterways.

“Sea Shanties at the Gowanus Canal” will bring in several Sea Shanty experts including Vienna Carroll, Stuart Markus, and others, to lead audiences in group song, and share history of the musical tradition. Representatives from the Gowanus Dredgers and Billion Oyster Project will share information about their work, and how we can work towards a more sustainable future for the Gowanus Canal and other NYC waterways.

May 7th: Jam Face! A Fundraiser and Art Exhibition at Sunny's Bar

More than two years in the making!! Porch Stomp is thrilled that we've finally locked in a date for "Jam Face," a fundraiser and exhibit of artist (and musician) Steven Skollar's beautiful drawings of musicians in the NYC bluegrass scene. On Saturday, May 7th, the 80+ drawings will go up in the back room of Sunny's bar, and we will celebrate with a very special Sunny's Saturday night bluegrass jam. The exhibit will remain up through June 25th, so there's plenty of opportunity to check out this amazing display. All drawings will be on sale, with first right of refusal to each drawing's subject, and all funds raised go to support Porch Stomp 2022! The exhibit was supposed to premiere in April of 2020, and more than two years later we are so thrilled that it is finally happening!!

Stay tuned for more events!
